From 2011 models, NHTSA has introduced tougher tests and more stringent requirements for the five-star rating that provide more information on the performance of security features and technologies to prevent accidents.

The LaCrosse received five-star ratings for both frontal crash and side crash generally large. These crash test ratings are instrumental in helping Prospective car buyers evaluate the safety performance of new vehicles.

"Car buyers today want peace of mind that comes with buying a vehicle you know will help protect your family," said Tony DiSalle, vice president of marketing at Buick. The LaCrosse offers the following security features:

  • Smart technologies for delivering a "360 degree" field of vision behind the wheel for a greater sense of comfort, control and security
  • The blind side of the area warning technology notify the driver if a vehicle in the adjacent lanes are traveling on the driver's blind spot
  • System rear view camera with an integrated display on the screen of the navigation system
  • Front and side-impact airbags and roof-mounted head curtain air bags that help protect occupants in a rollover crash
  • An advanced front-seat safety system that includes a belt-locking latchplate, dual pretensioners that help strengthen the safety belt for older versions of occupant containment during the onset of moderate to severe crashes and load limiters help limit the forces on the occupant to help reduce the risk of injury
  • GM StabiliTrak stability and traction control system,
  • On Star (including for the first year of ownership)

GM engineers developed the dynamic locking latchplate, part of the system of front seatbelts. Fit dynamic load in an accident to help curb safely pelvis of the occupant, and that works in conjunction with the safety function of the load limiting seat belt load control in the occupant's torso. This security feature helps to achieve the rating LaCrosse five-star frontal crash for both driver and front seat passenger.
